FAQ - Anybus Wireless Bridge

  • Q: Why am I not able to connect to the Anybus Wireless Bridge from my web browser?

To be able to connect to the web interface of the Anybus Wireless Bridge, your computer must be in the same IP address subnet.

    1. Reset the Anybus Wireless Bridge to the factory default IP settings.
    2. Change the IP settings of the computer to match the default IP settings of the Anybus Wireless Bridge.

  • Q: What is the default IP address and subnet mask?
The default IP address and subnet mask of the Wireless Bridge are:

    IP address 192.168.0.99
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Q: Which wireless technology should I choose, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?
    • Use Wi-Fi if:

      Use Bluetooth if:

      • Radio communication between devices of different brand is needed, e.g. to tablet/PC/ phone or Wi-Fi infrastructure
      • A robust and reliable link without interruptions is important e.g. in an industrial environment with lots of interference, and maybe has been proven not to work well using Wi-Fi.
      • Wi-Fi frequency planning is possible, i.e. the spectrum needs to be free from other radio energy in the selected channels.
      • The wireless link has products of the same brand/supplier in both ends, e.g.Anybus Wireless Bolt or Bridge.
      • Higher data throughput speed is necessary
      • A Profinet or EtherNet/IP I/O cycle time of 64ms or higher is acceptable.
      • Larger file transfers are expected
      • The data throughput speed need is on the lower side.
  • Q: Which Wi-Fi frequency band should I use, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
The 2.4 GHz band has the longest range but is susceptible to interference from other equipment such as Bluetooth devices, wireless phones, microwave ovens, etc. The 5.0 GHz band has a shorter range but is less likely to be affected by other devices.
  • Q: Is the previous Anybus Wireless Bridge compatible with the new Anybus Wireless Bridge II when communicating over bluetooth?
No, the new Anybus Wireless Bridge II module use extended security that was not available in the old version so they are not fully compatible.
  • Q: I have activated DHCP relay, but my devices connected to the Anybus Wireless Bridge II or Bolt don’t get an address.
Many enterprise level networks will block DHCP traffic beyond the wireless device itself, even if we forward the requests from the Anybus Wireless Bridge II/Bolt.

Solution 1: Check with the customers IT department if this is the case, either disable the blocking or use static IP addresses for all attached equipment.

Solution 2: Use one Anybus Wireless Bridge II/Bolt for each device using Layer 2 clone MAC setting.
  • Q: I changed my Network setting to DHCP and cannot find the Anybus Wireless Bridge II/Bolt

    1. Check with the IT department if they can check in the DHCP server what IP address that was assigned to your MACID or

    2. Make a Factory Reset to access the module on the default IP address.

  • Q: Where can I find 3D drawings for the Anybus Wireless Bridge II?

The 3D drawings for the Anybus Wireless Bridge II can be downloaded here: 3D Drawings

  • Q: What is the recommended minimum cycle time for I/O-data on the network?

HMS recommends to use the following minimum IO-data cycle times based on recommendations from industrial equipment suppliers such as Rockwell and Siemens, i.e. for the networks PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.

    Minimum IO-data cycle times:

    • Wireless link Point-to-point with Bluetooth PANU-PANU or Wi-Fi AP to Station: 32 ms
    • Wireless link with Access Point and up to 4 wireless clients/stations, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi: 64 ms
