Does your device use the Rockwell DF1 protocol?

Need to connect Rockwell Allen Bradley or Guard devices to EtherNet/IP? The Anybus Communicator can easily connect the devices DF1 protocol to EtherNet/IP.

How to configure

Configuring the Anybus Communicator is made in both RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000 and in the Anybus Configuration Manager. In DF1 Master Mode, the Anybus Configuration Manager comes preloaded with a number of services, that can be selected by the user. The actual DF1 commands, that perform the services during runtime, are predefined in the Anybus Communicator.

DF1 Configuration Video

In the configuration video we show how a SLC500 PLC is connected to EtherNet/IP via its DF1 protocol. By selecting "DF1 Master" in the Anybus Configuration Manager and then adding the DF1 commands, you can see how this is easily done.

How it works

Anybus Communicator  - DF1 Master to your DF1 half-duplex slave device

In DF1 master mode, communication is based on ‘services’. A ‘service’ represents a set of commands and operations on the subnetwork, that is predefined in the Anybus Communicator. Each service is associated with a set of parameters controlling how and when to use it on the sub-network.

The communication is based on a request-response scheme, where the gateway issues a query on the sub-network. The addressed node on the sub-network is expected to issue a response to that query. Nodes are not permitted to issue responses spontaneously, i. e. without first receiving a request.

The scenario below shows two examples of how the PLC controllers can be connected to a EtherNet/IP control network using serial DF1 via RS-232. The Communicator is a Slave/Adapter on the EtherNet/IP network but a DF1 Master to the attached slave devices.

DF1 configuration highlights - Anybus Configuration Manager

The Anybus Configuration Manager (ACM) is included with the purchase of the Anybus Commuicator.

  • Communicator functions as a DF1 Master towards the serial devices
  • Selectable RS-232/422/485 serial interface
  • Selectable pre-loaded DF1 commands. No scripting or serial frame building required!
  • Ability to make popular checksum calaculations
  • In-built Line Listener to analyze serial telegrams on the sub-network
  • Multi-language support, supporting English, German, Spansh, Italian, French, Polish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese
  • Handy Save/Load function allows for a completed configuration to be re-used for many other installations
  • Password protection prevents unauthorized upload and download of configurations
