In addition to integrating EtherCAT communication, device manufacturers with products for Semiconductor manufacturing must also build their EtherCAT communications to be compliant with the ETG Semiconductor Profile (ETG.5003) specifications. This includes implementing the ETG SEMI Common Device Profile (CDP). The Common Device Profile (CDP) specifies all of the general requirements that all semiconductor EtherCAT devices must conform to. This covers both hardware and software requirements. The CDP also begins to describe features and functionalities which shall be further defined in Specific Device Profiles. This lays out the groundwork for future designs of more advanced machines.
To help semiconductor device manufacturers that are using the Anybus CompactCom to implement the EtherCAT and ETG SEMI CDP, HMS has developed an Anybus CompactCom SEMI Starter Kit. This product serves as a starting point to begin developing an EtherCAT SEMI conformant device by providing the CDP software framework including an object dictionary, dynamic object mapping, command objects, a firmware update example, and a base EtherCAT Slave Information (ESI) file.
